Legal cannabis: end of prohibition?

Cannabis, a plant that has been demonized for decades, is undergoing a true revolution. Indeed, more and more countries around the world have decided to legalize its use for medical and/or recreational purposes. But what does this really mean for us mere mortals? Is it the end of the prohibition feared by cannabis consumers? Let's take a closer look.

First of all, it is important to understand that the prohibition of cannabis dates back several decades. At the time, it was believed that this plant was dangerous to health and could lead to crime. This is how cannabis became illegal in most countries around the world.

For years, cannabis consumers had to hide to smoke their joint. They risked fines, or even imprisonment, if caught by the police. But today, things have changed. More and more countries have decided to legalize cannabis, whether for medical or recreational use.

In the United States, for example, several states have already legalized recreational cannabis. In California, it is now possible to buy cannabis in specialized shops. And even though it remains illegal at the federal level, authorities do not seem to want to intervene.

In Europe, the situation is a bit more complicated. While some countries like the Netherlands have a very lax policy on cannabis, others are much stricter. In France, for example, cannabis remains illegal and consumers still risk imprisonment.

So what does this mean for us mere mortals? Well, it all depends on where you live. If you live in a country where cannabis is legalized, you can now smoke your joint in peace. You will no longer have to hide to avoid police checks.

On the other hand, if you live in a country where cannabis is still illegal, you will have to continue to be cautious. Even if the police are becoming less severe with cannabis consumers, it is still preferable not to take unnecessary risks.

But beyond the question of legalization, there is also that of the quality of cannabis. Indeed, if you buy your cannabis on the black market, you have no guarantee as to its quality. On the other hand, if you buy it in a specialized shop, you are sure to have a superior quality product.

And then there is also the question of taxation. If cannabis is legalized, the state can then tax its sale and generate significant revenue from it. This is notably the case in the United States, where the sale of recreational cannabis has brought in billions of dollars for the states that have legalized it.

In conclusion, the legalization of cannabis is a good thing for consumers, but also for states that can generate significant revenue from it. It remains to be seen whether all countries in the world will eventually legalize cannabis one day. In the meantime, smoke your joint in moderation and above all, do not drive after smoking!
